TORONTO, July 16, 2020 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Acrow Bridge, a leading international bridge engineering and supply company, announces that its Canadian firm, Acrow Limited, has recently designed and delivered a 112.6-meter-long three-span structure to minimize Work zone traffic is disrupted during a bridge replacement project in Bayfield, Ontario.
The Bayfield River Bridge is a 70-meter-long two-span deck truss bridge on Highway 21, completed in 1949.By 2017, it had reached the end of its useful life and preliminary planning for a full replacement was initiated.As the route provides vital access not only to local residents but also to the region’s vital tourism industry, the approved project required the installation of a temporary bridge to provide on-site detours for vehicles and pedestrians while the replacement bridge is rebuilt.
The modular steel bypass bridge designed and supplied for this project consists of three spans of 18.3m, 76m and 18.3m, with a total length of 112.6m, a roadway width of 9.1m, and a live load of CL-625-two-lane ONT.The bridge features a TL-4 guardrail system, 1.5m cantilevered walkways, and has a non-slip epoxy aggregate deck surface.
The main span is long and heavy, which brought many challenges to the launching and erection of the bridge.Components are delivered in stages to accommodate installation due to the minimal footprint available for field assembly.The bridge was erected on rollers and additional rollers were required on top of the piers for ease of erection and safe launching.The bridge is then moved to its final position, lowered and set on abutments and pier bearings to complete construction.
Delivered to contractor Looby Construction in mid-February, the rental bridge was built in about four weeks and opened to traffic on April 13.It will continue to serve for at least 10 months while the replacement bridge is built.
